Johnny Genearl Purvis

Johnny Genearl Purvis, 64, of Bridgeton passed away Thursday, May 3, 2012, at home.

He was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church. He retired from the U.S. Navy after 21 years of service.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Purvis; four sons, Rob Castle and wife, Brenda, of Morganton, Greg Castle and wife, Brenda, of Clayton, Shane Purvis and wife, Laura, of Monroe, and Josh Purvis and wife, Amanda, of New Bern; one brother, Creandle Purvis and wife, Edna, of Smyrna, Ga.; and seven grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 9, 2012, at Tabernacle Baptist Church with the Rev. Scott Gleason officiating. Interment will follow immediately in Greenleaf Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers the family suggested memorial contributions be made to Tabernacle Baptist Church Column Fund or Building Fund.
