Inez Lamm Wetherington, 88, went to be with her Lord and Savior on July 16, 2012, after a brief illness. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She was a resident of McCarthy Court prior to moving to Homeplace of New Bern, where she died peacefully with family by her side. Inez was an artist, who took great pride in her oil painting, most of which she gave to her children and grandchildren.
She was born on December 16, 1923, near Aurora, NC, the daughter of the late William Thomas Lamm and Myrtie Walker Lamm. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leslie Wetherington, Sr.; sisters, Lucille L. Mayo, Mamie L. Gillikin, and Edna L. Walker; and brothers, Jamie J. Lamm, and William B. Lamm.
On January 25, 1942, she married the love of her life, Leslie Wetherington, Sr of Ernul, NC, whom she met in 1937 when she was only 14 years of age. They celebrated 67 years of marriage before her husband passed away in 2009.
She is survived by: one sister, Nancy Maefield L. Watson of Raleigh NC; sister-in-law, Marjorie W. Walker of Lilburn, GA.; daughters and sons-in-law, Anna and Ronald Denton of Midland, GA and Ilene (Bender) Caton and Woody Caton of New Bern; and son, Leslie “Les” Wetherington, Jr. of New Bern. She is also survived by four grandchildren: Michelle Bender (Sarno) Adams and husband, Jody Adams, of Lake Wylie, SC; Angela Bender Gray and husband, Thomas A. Gray, Jr., of Gastonia, NC; and Kasi Wetherington and Evan Wetherington of New Bern; and seven great-grandchildren, Thomas Gray III, Lillian (Lilly) Gray, and Katherine Gray of Gastonia, NC, John A. (Jack) Sarno, Ava Sarno, Cassandra Adams, and Joseph Cory Adams of Lake Wylie, SC. Inez is also survived by many nieces and nephews and their children.
A memorial service will be held on August 11 at 10 AM, at
Greenleaf Memorial Park, Lakeside Chapel Pavilion, with Pastor Jeff Swain officiating.
