John Lane Toler

August 6, 1926 — October 7, 2012

John Lane Toler, 86, of Alliance passed away Sunday, October 7, 2012, at Duke University Medical Center.

He was a member of South Creek Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for more than 20 years. He served in WWII and the Korean wars. He retired as a lineman with Tideland after 42 years of service.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, two brothers, two sisters, and his son, John Toler, Jr.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ella Toler; one son, Johnnie Toler and wife, Kim, of Alliance; two daughters, Darlene Ensley and husband, Ralph, of Alliance and Jennifer Franklin and husband, Del, of Caton; two brothers, Rev. Lee C. Toler of Alliance and Lil Tom Toler of Princeton; seven grandchildren, Johnathan Toler, Amy Casey, Josh Toler, Carrie Golden, Amanda Ensley, Rebecca Franklin and Richard Franklin; and seven great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m., Thursday, October 11, at Bryant Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. John Hurt, Rev. Jack Bowen, Rev. Robert Miller and Johnnie Toler officiating. Interment will follow immediately in Grantsboro cemetery with military honors.

The family will receive friends and relatives from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday night at Bryant Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers the family suggested memorial contributions be made to South Creek Missionary Baptist Church, 1074 South Creek Rd., Aurora, NC 27806 or charity of one’s choice.
