Gerhardus J. Enzerink

Gerhardus "Gerry" J. Enzerink, 77, died Sunday, November 11, 2012 at home in Oriental, losing a hard-fought battle with cancer.
He was born in Rheden, The Netherlands, graduated from the Merchant Marine Academy in Rotterdam and achieved Master Mariner status at the young age of 28. He and his family moved to New Jersey in 1967, later settling in Southern California.
Gerry and his wife Kathy moved to Texas in 1986 where they farmed, ranched and owned and operated Evergreen Acres Christmas Tree Farms in De Leon and Waco (Gholson).
A life-long avid sailor, Gerry discovered Oriental when he purchased a boat in 1996. The couple moved here full-time in 2003.
He is survived by his wife Kathy, daughter and son-in-law Ingrid and John Nabors of Texas, son and daughter-in-law Robert Jan and Anahita Enzerink of California and five grandchildren, Christopher Nabors, Elizabeth Nabors Taylor, Margaret Nabors of Texas, Ariana Enzerink and Serena Enzerink of California.
A remembrance and celebration of Gerry's life is Saturday, Dec. 1 at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church in Oriental. Friends of Gerry and Kathy are welcome.
The family requests memorials be made to charities serving the local communities.
