Hannah Mccotter Cowell

Hannah McCotter Cowell, 84, of Bayboro, beloved mother, granny, and friend to many, went to be with her Heavenly family on Sunday, December 9, 2012. She was born March 30, 1928, to Samuel F. and Glennie Woodard McCotter.

An alumnus of Peace College, she was a dedicated member of the Bethany Christian Church family where she was active in Circle Number 4. She was also a 45-year member of the UNC Educational Foundation and Tarheel fan, and an avid bridge player.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John W. “Jackie” Cowell, Jr; son, Jeffrey F. Cowell and son and daughter-in-law, Mark R. and Carla L. Cowell; and great-granddaughter, Hannah Blake Jones.

She is survived by two sons, John W. Cowell, III and wife, Glynis, of Durham and Keith D. Cowell and wife, Gloria, of Bayboro; daughter, Patricia C. Morris and husband, Marvin, of Semora, NC; two sisters-in-law, Cassie May Coppage of New Bern and Joy McCotter of Vandemere; one brother-in-law, Wesley H. Ruth of Matthews, NC; 12 grandchildren, Jack Cowell, Kate Cowell, Jeff (Samantha) Cowell, Chad (Lauren) Cowell, Matt Cowell, Worth Cowell, Hannah Cowell, Jaclyn (BJ) Jones, Katlyn Cowell, AJ (Lindsay) Sodoma, Marv Morris and Chelsea Morris; and three great-grandchildren, Finley Cowell, Colt Cowell and Ainsley Sodoma.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 12, at Bethany Christian Church with the Rev. Merritt Watson officiating. Interment will follow immediately in Greenleaf Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends and relatives from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday evening at Bryant Funeral Home.
