Elton "Sonny" Dawson Reel, Jr.

Mr. Elton Dawson “Sonny” Reel Jr., 59 years old, passed away Saturday, April 6, 2013, at Bayview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in New Bern. Mr. Reel was born in Greenville on January 25, 1954, the son of Christine Strickland Reel and Elton Dawson Reel, Sr.

Mr. Reel worked as a parts salesman for 35 years at Covington Detroit Diesel in New Bern and for the last 2 years, was employed at Coastal Diesel Service in New Bern.

A graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m., Monday, April 8, at Pinewood Memorial Park in Greenville with the Dr. Ricky Tippett officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.

Mr. Reel was preceded in death by his mother, Christine Strickland Reel in 1967 and his wife, Iris Brantley Reel in 2009.

His surviving family includes parents, Elton and Louise, 2nd mother, Reel of Greenville; sisters, Joy Nethercutt of Greenville, Gwen Tippett and husband, Ricky, of Raleigh and Candice Moore and husband, Kenneth, of Greenville; brother, Thomas Bland and wife, Ruthie, of Bayboro. He also has three nieces, three nephews, three great-nieces, three great-nephews, and a very special cat named Miss Kitty.

Our beloved son/brother/uncle will be greatly missed.
