Edward Lee Spencer, 68, of Alliance, passed away December 12, 2013, at CarolinaEast Medical Center.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Marcia Slade Spencer; two-daughters, Susan S. Woods and husband, Brian, of Alliance and Tammy S. Rodriguez and husband, Joe, of Reelsboro; five granddaughters, Amanda Rowe of Grantsboro, Lauren Rowe of Alliance, Brittany Woods of Greenville, Isabella Rodriguez of Reelsboro, and Krystle Rodriguez of Elizabeth City.
He was preceded in death by a son, Edward Lee Spencer, Jr.
He retired from PCS Phosphate Inc. after 39 ½ years of service.
Edward was a faithful member of New Bethlehem Free Will Baptist Church where he served for many years as a deacon, Sunday school teacher and superintendent, church treasurer, and choral member. He was a retired volunteer fireman after 25 years of service, a member of the Alliance town board for over 20 years, and a member of the Bay River Metropolitan board for 21 years. The Gideon organization was a cause close to his heart.
His funeral will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, December 15 at Bryant Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Jesse Crisp, Buddy Sasser, and Graham Lane officiating. Interment will follow immediately in New Bethlehem FWB Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday, December 14 at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers the family suggested memorial contributions be made to New Bethlehem Free Will Baptist Church Building Fund, c/o Scotty Whitford, 1903 Scott Store Rd., Grantsboro, NC 28529.
