Allan O. Vaughn, 83, of Oriental went to join his maker in heaven on January 6, 2014.
Mr. Vaughn was born in Senath, Missouri where he was raised one of six children on a cotton farm. At the outbreak of the Korean War he joined the United States Air Force and remained on active duty for 22 years. During his years of service he served in Korea, Turkey, Philippine Islands, Vietnam and numerous air bases throughout the USA. His rank at retirement was Senior Master Sergeant.
After retiring, he continued to work in the aviation industry in both military and commercial productions, overseeing production line and quality assurance. He held a pilot certificate, airframe and power plant certificate (A&P) along with Designated Air worthiness Representative (DAR) from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and had a degree in aeronautics. Along with a love of flying he enjoyed fishing and was always looking for the next big catch.
Mr. Vaughn is survived by his wife of 60 years, Thelma Vaughn; son, Mark Vaughn of Oriental; daughter, Nancy Chappell of Annapolis, MD; three sisters, three grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.
He was a very generous man who supported the families many causes and he will be missed very much by family and friends. He always said celebrate his life and do not morn his death. God Bless him and Aim High.
His funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 10, 2014 at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, Jacksonville, NC with military honors by Seymour Johnson Air Force Base.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. Friday morning at Bryant Funeral Home.
