Rebecca Midyette Lewis Paul Porter, 96 passed away peacefully on March 23, 2014 at Universal Health Care of North Raleigh surrounded by family.
Born in Oriental, NC on November 30, 1917, she was the daughter of Charles and Linda Lewis. She was preceded in death by her parents, ten siblings, her son Jimmie Lawrence Paul of Knightdale, by her husband of 44 years Hubert Vance Paul of Oriental, and her second husband Fred Porter of Toronto, Canada.
Rebecca is lovingly remembered by her daughters, Becky Paul Deegan and husband, Bill of Raleigh; Melba Paul Julius and husband, T.J. of Henderson; cherished grandchildren James Paul and wife, Angela; Vance Paul; Christina Smith; Bryan Caton; and Gabrielle Julius of Raleigh. Her great-grandchildren are Jay and Nate Paul; Hannah and Valerie Paul; and Cam and Tanner Smith.
Rebecca graduated from Oriental High School in 1934. She was a member and deaconess of the Oriental First Baptist Church. Rebecca was a strong, resourceful, and cheerful person who loved others. Her family was the center of her being, and she cherished each one. After retiring from her working life, she enjoyed traveling with her sister Alice and brother-in-law Merrill; later, she and her second husband Fred traveled with the Avion group in the states and Canada.
The family would like to offer sincere and heartfelt thanks to the caregivers at Universal Healthcare of North Raleigh.
A visitation prior to the funeral service will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 27 at the First Baptist Church in Oriental, NC. The 1:00 p.m. funeral service will follow with the Rev. Jerry Harper officiating. Burial will follow in Paul Cemetery in Arapahoe, NC.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests any contributions be made to the Oriental First Baptist Church, 605 Broad St. Oriental, NC 28571.
