Marie Antoinette Burak

M arie Antoinette Burak, 88, formerly of Portsmouth, NH, went home to be with the Lord on April 19th, 2014 in New Bern.

Marie was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts on August 31, 1925 . She graduated from Somerville High School in 1943 and was married to Stanley Francis Burak on June 9th, 1946 .

Marie worked at various property management companies for nearly four decades before retiring to live in Tampa, FL. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, organizing church events and was an avid Red Sox, Bruins, Celtics and Patriots fan. Marie was the true definition of a friend and considered it her duty to help those around her on a daily basis. Her loving and generous spirit will be dearly missed.

Marie is preceded in death by her parents Mary and Joseph Aguiar; husband Stanley F. Burak and her beloved yorkie Muffin.

Marie is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Cheryl & Jim McLaughlin of Arapahoe, NC; her son and daughter-in-law Stanley Burak of Kirkland, WA and Victoria Burak of Portsmouth NH; her brother Larry & Janie Aguiar of Elizabeth City, NC; her sister Bertha & Bill Brophy of Worcester, MA; grandchildren Rebecca Burak Bernier & Mike Bernier; Julie Burak, James & Sheryll McLaughlin, Chris & Sarah McLaughlin, Kevin McLaughlin and Tyler Burak; great grandchildren Megan, Mia, J.J., Sidney, Nolan, Emilia and Ainsley and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends as well as her faithful dog Lilly.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association. A Memorial service honoring Marie’s life will be held at a to-be-determined date in Oriental, NC.
