Brenda “Suzy” Hastings Alitto, RNC, 66, of Oriental, NC passed away at Vidant Medical Center, Greenville NC on 28th September, 2014.
She was born in Shelby, NC, graduating from Shelby High School in 1966. She attended Western Carolina University and received her Registered Nurse credentials from NC Baptist Hospital, Wake Forest University. She was employed as a Certified Psychiatric Nurse at multiple facilities throughout the United States including VA Medical Centers at Lebanon, PA; Topeka, KS and Perryville, MD. She also worked at Rouge Valley Hospital, Medford, OR; Duke University Hospital; Butner, NC Federal Correctional Institute; University of Alabama, Birmingham Hospital and Philhaven Hospital, Mt. Gretna, PA. Her last position was with Neuse Mental Health, New Bern, NC. Her recent passion was theater and was active in the Oriental Old Theater, acting in multiple plays over the past 10 years. She was also an active member of the Minnesott Golf and Country Club and the Red Hat Society and a volunteer for Hospice of Pamlico Co.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph Z. Hastings and Elizabeth G. Hastings, of Shelby.
She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Samuel P. Alitto of Oriental and her son, Anthony J. Alitto of Orlando, FL, as well as three cousins, Donald Peters of Grover, NC, Robert Ellis of Durham, NC and Stephen Ellis of Salisbury, NC.
Those wishing to speak with the family may do so from 4 to 6 p.m. at Bryant Funeral Home on Thursday, October 2nd with a memorial service following at 6 p.m. with the Rev. Rex Horne officiating.
In lieu of flowers the family suggested memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, 2202 Wrightsville Ave, Suite 111, Wilmington, NC 28403.
