Judy Christine Mills Maness

November 20, 1938 — July 14, 2015

Judy Christine Mills Maness, 76, of Oriental, passed away July 14, 2015 at home. Judy was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother (known by her grandchildren as “Nana”).

She was a graduate of Atlantic Christian College (Barton College) with a BA in Education and was a retired teacher.

While raising her children, Judy worked as a leader in various school organizations and mentored and mothered many of her children’s friends in the community.

A dedicated Christian, she was a loyal and active member of Pamlico United Methodist Church and enjoyed her bible studies and fellowship with her church family.

Judy is predeceased by her parents, Flavel J. and Mabel J. Mills as well as two brothers, Flavel J. “Jack” Mills, Jr. and Harold Lee Mills.

She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Eli Frank Maness, Jr. of the home; one son, Eli Frank “Buddy” Maness, III of Dunn; two daughters, Mary Elizabeth Maness Green of Murrells Inlet, SC and Michelle Maness Benish of Southbury, CT; two sisters, Sarah Mills Heckhaus of Woodstock, GA and Linda Mills Gray of Tallahassee, FL; six grandchildren, Eli, David and Jacob Maness, Robert “Robbie” and Jeremy Green and Allison Benish.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, July 17 at the Pamlico United Methodist Church with Rev. Mike Roach officiating.
The family will have a private burial service in Greensboro, NC at a later time.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Pamlico United Methodist Church, Hospice of Pamlico County, Hospice of Craven County, Pamlico County Rescue Squad or the Craven County Rescue Squad.
