Florence Elizabeth Rush

Florence Elizabeth (Betty) Rush was born August 25, 1911 in Pittsburg, PA and passed away on Monday, November 30, 2015 in Grantsboro.

She was among the ladies ahead of their time as she graduated from Florida State College for Women and taught Junior High math, science, and English in Deland, Fla. She coached the women’s basketball team and played first base for the Deland newspaper’s baseball team. She played tennis until she was 83 years old. She attributes her long healthy life to always being active.

Betty was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Ormond Beach, Florida. She taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible School.

Betty is survived by her son, Charles Keirn Rush of New Bern; daughter, Wilma Elizabeth Kruger of Daytona Beach, Fla; three grandchildren, Jennifer S. Lucas, Jeanne R. Karver, and Charles M. Goodnow; and six great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.
