James Edward Newton

James Edward Newton, 83, of Vandemere passed away Wednesday, December 16, 2015, at CarolinaEast Medical Center.

He was a member of Mt. Zion Original Free Will Baptist Church. Loving the water, he worked all his life as a commercial fisherman.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Katie S. Newton; daughters, Cathy Miller and husband, Jerry, of Raleigh and Janie Newton, of the home; brothers, Odos Newton and wife, Geraldine, of Colonial Heights, Va. and Jesse Newton of New Bern; sister, Margaret Rose of Vandemere; two grandchildren, Jonathan Miller and Jennifer Lovitt; and two great-grandchildren, Jack and Paisley Lovitt.

Graveside services will be held 1:00 p.m., Saturday, December 19th at Celestial Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers the family suggested memorial contributions be made to CCHC Foundation, Journey of Hope, 1010 Medical Park Ave., New Bern, NC 28562.
