Jane Hayward Murphy L’Hommedieu, 88, of Arapahoe, formerly of Alliance, died at her daughter’s home in Alliance on Sunday, January 31, 2016.
Memorial services will be held on Thursday, February 4th at 6 p.m. at Bryant Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Walter Graves officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 to 6 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
Jane was born in Milford, Conn. On October 14, 1927 to James Hayward Sr. and Ruth Gould Hayward. She graduated from public schools in Milford. She worked as a secretary until retirement, and worked a brief time when the family owned their restaurant. Jane was very well known for her desserts, all homemade pies and puddings of all kinds daily! She traveled with her family and lived in Hawaii and Texas, ending up in Eastern N.C. She loved to sing and became a member of the Pamlico Chorale. She was a member of the Reelsboro United Methodist Church and the church choir. She was in the 60+ Club, The Pamlico Senior Center, The Whortonsville Quilters Club, Woodman Senior Camp, and the Achy Breaky Dance Club.
For her 85th birthday, Jane went on a hot air balloon ride, the following year she went zip-lining! She loved traveling, line dancing, playing the piano, trap shooting, eating out (especially with her family), and dancing. In her early 20’s she did square dancing on horseback. Jane was full of life, and active until her recent illness. She loved her family and friends and will be missed by many.
She is survived by her husband, Mark L’Hommedieu of Arapahoe; two sons, James W. Murphy and wife, Diane, of Ledyard, Conn. And Danny E. Murphy and wife, Norma, of Deep River, Conn.; daughter, Amy Murphy of Alliance; five grandchildren, James C. Murphy, Shana K. Murphy, Heather D. Murphy, Ryan D. Murphy and Curtis F. Riggs; and one great-grandchild, Arianna Jade Caban.
In addition to her parents, Jane was preceded in death by her first husband, George W. Murphy; a daughter, Suanne Quisenberry; her brother, James Hayward, Jr.; and a sister, Susan Schumitz.
