Garnett Hunter Leary, Sr.

Garnett Hunter Leary, Sr., 71, of Reelsboro passed away Sunday, February 14, 2016, at home.

He was a member of Word Fellowship Church and retired from Express Marine as a Tug Boat Captain.

Garnett was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. The joy of the Lord was his strength and he shared life stories in a humorous way.

He was preceded in death by a son, Jeffery Leary and daughter, Christina Leary Suarez.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 52 years, Joan Spain Leary; children, Tiffany Leary of Reelsboro, Garnett Leary Jr. and wife, Mao, of New Bern, and Alicia Dixon and husband, Shane, of Grantsboro; sisters, Sina Sawyer of Aurora and Wayne Rae Potter and husband, Orien, of Vanceboro; and five grandchildren, Camren Laughinghouse, Jacob Fleming, Preston & Kaitlyn Dixon and Jazmin Leary.

His funeral will be held 2 p.m., Wednesday, February 17th at Word Fellowship Church with the Rev. Owen Lupton officiating. Interment will follow immediately in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
