Carolyn Allen Garris, 77, of Trent Woods, passed away peacefully at home on April 7, 2016.
Born on May 31, 1938, in Winterville, N.C., she was preceded in death by her parents, Lester Ivy Allen and Nina Jackson Reece and her sister Glenn Allen Ellers. Carolyn was a graduate of Winterville High School.
Carolyn's love of life was exemplified by her faith and love of her church, Trinity United Methodist. It was there that she shared her passion and dedication by singing in the choir, attending numerous Bible studies, and ever seeking to grow in the Lord. Carolyn was also a proud member of the Eastern Star. Carolyn was an example to many in her commitment to an active and healthy lifestyle. She greatly enjoyed her time at Courts Plus and New Bern Golf and County Club. She brought her faith, enthusiasm and energy to JE Jones Lumber company, where she was a loyal dedicated employee for 40 years.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Robert Lee Garris Jr.; daughters, Ivy Garris and Tracy Bryant and husband Paul Bryant III, all of New Bern; sister, Janet Murray of Virginia Beach; two grandchildren, Caroline Bryant and Kelsie McBride, and other nieces.
Her funeral service will be held at 3 p.m., Sunday, April 10, 2016, at Trinity United Methodist Church with the Rev. Charlene Guider officiating. Entombment will follow immediately at the Lakeside Chapel at Greenleaf Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends and relatives one hour prior to the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers the family suggested memorial contributions be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, PO Box 12867, New Bern, NC 28561.
