Brenda Johnson Avery

February 17, 1954 — April 27, 2016

Brenda Jo Johnson Avery, 62, of Reelsboro, passed away Wednesday, April 27, 2016, at CarolinaEast Medical Center. Surrounded by her loving family as she drew her last breath, with “Go Rest High On That Mountain” playing at her bedside, she slipped peacefully away from this world and into the loving arms of her Father in Heaven. Brenda was a kind and loving person who loved her family and her animals with all her heart. Her world especially revolved around her son Jamie and grandson Damon, as well as all her other family and friends, and she will be greatly missed by all who loved her.
She was also a hardworking, dedicated employee who spent time working with mentally handicapped children at her job in Illinois before moving back home to NC where she went to work with the state Department of Transformation. She spent 16 years serving on the SEANC committee, as well as many years on the SECU Scholarship Committee.
She was preceded in death by her father, Henry Mack Johnson Jr. and brother, Henry “Mack” Johnson III.
She is survived by her husband of 34 years, Stephen Avery; mother, Martha Scott Heffelfinger and husband, Terry, of Rock Falls, Ill.; sons, Jamie Johnson and wife, Christina, of Gloucester, Va. and Michael Avery of Mississippi; sisters, Vicky Ward of Grantsboro and Donna Vasquez and husband, John, of Sterling, Ill.; brothers, Gary Johnson of Grantsboro and Dahn Heflebower of Austin, TX; grandchildren, Damon Johnson, Dana Avery, Hannah Hope Avery, Carrie Bunn, Amanda Dawn Daniels, Abigail, Braxton and Dustin Thomas; and great-grandchildren, Landon Daniels and Abigail Bunn.

Her graveside service will be held 2:00 p.m., Sunday, May 1st at Scott Cemetery with the Rev. Earl Sadler Jr. officiating.

The family will be receiving friends anytime at her sister’s home, Vicky Ward, 1013 Scott Town Rd., Grantsboro.

In lieu of flowers the family suggested memorial contributions be made to P.A.W.S., PO Box 888, Oriental, NC 28571.
