Margarete Else Mueller

Margarete Bartling Mueller, 86, of New Bern, passed away Thursday, June 30, 2016, at her home.

Margarete was born in Reading PA, but spent her childhood in Germany. She moved back to the United States after WWII in 1947. She married Hans Mueller in 1953 and raised their three sons in Bloomingdale, NJ. She moved to New Bern in 1986 upon Hans’ retirement. Margarete was a long standing member of First Presbyterian Church, the YMCA and the Alpenverein Club. She participated annually in the Neuse River Senior Games and both she and Hans were honored to be invited to carry the torch in the 1995 State Senior Olympic Games in Raleigh, NC. Margarete enjoyed reading, swimming, gardening and traveling.

Margarete was preceded in death by her husband, Hans Mueller.

She is survived by her three sons, Peter Mueller of New Bern, Thomas Mueller and wife, Terri, of Oregon, and Gerald Mueller and wife, Theresa, of New Bern; two brothers, Ludwig Bartling of Germany and Fritz Bartling of Switzerland; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Her memorial service will be held 11 a.m., Tuesday, July 12th, at First Presbyterian Church of New Bern with the Rev. Whitney Bayer officiating.

A reception will follow immediately in the Session House.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggested a memorial contribution be made to First Presbyterian Church of New Bern, PO Box 1069, New Bern, NC 28563-1069.
