Frank Murrell Sawyer, Jr.

Frank Murrell Sawyer, Jr., 84, of Alliance, passed away Friday, November 25, 2016, at Grantsbrook Nursing & Rehab Center.

Frank was a proud volunteer member of the Pamlico Country Rescue Squad for many years and was one of its founding members 50 years ago. He was a boat builder and fiberglass boat repairman for nearly 30 years before going to work for Pamlico County as a maintenance supervisor until his retirement. He was a U.S. Army veteran and reservist serving during and after the Korean War. He loved to cook, raise vegetables and fish with his late friend, Robert Paul.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Frank M. Sawyer, Sr. and Hannah; brother, Daniel Thomas Sawyer; and his long-time companion, Helen Gibbs.

He is survived by two sons, Frank Sawyer III (Diana) and Ronald Sawyer (Anita); one daughter, Debra Jost (Lee); and eight grandchildren, Crystal Ludvigson (Daniel), Jessica Foster (James), Juanita Brazzel (Jason), Ashley Taborn (Tad), Shawna Cooper, Mack Cooper (Denel), Elijah Webb and Sunny Webb; and six great-grandchildren.

His funeral will be held 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 29th at Bryant Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ray Lewis officiating. Interment will follow immediately in Sandhill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends and relatives one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
