Sherwood B. Norris

May 10, 1930 — January 7, 2017

Sherwood B. Norris, 86, of Olympia passed away Saturday, January 7, 2017, at Riverpoint Crest Nursing & Rehab Center.

He was a member of Reelsboro United Methodist Church and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He opened Norris Funeral Home in Pamlico County in 1974, was a member of Doric Masonic Lodge #568, P.C. Shrine Club and Mourner’s Unit and Past President and member of New Bern Shrine Club.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Norris.

He is survived by his daughter, Sina Norris and husband, Kevin, of New Bern; brothers, Billy Norris of Rhems, Bobby Norris of New Bern, George Norris and Edward Lee Norris, both of Trenton and Donald Ray Norris of Alliance; sisters, Shirley Straker of Aurora, Sarah Cahoon of Bridgeton and Mary Toler of New Bern; grandsons, Craig Hook (Angela) and Jay Hook, all of Olympia; and great-grandchildren, Kaylee Boren, Destiny Baker, Alyssa and Abigail Hook, all of Olympia.

Graveside services with masonic rites by Doric Lodge #568 and military honors, will be held 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 11th at Hollywood Cemetery with the Rev. Mike Roach and the Rev. Walter Graves officiating.

The family will receive friends prior to the service at the cemetery and other times at his daughter’s home, 4529 Hwy 55 E. Olympia.

In lieu of flowers the family suggested memorial contributions be made to Reelsboro United Methodist Church Building Fund, 51 Holland Dr., New Bern, NC 28560.
