Walter Richard Fennelly Chapin

Walter Richard Fennelly Chapin, 68, of Oriental passed away Saturday, April 8, 2017, at CarolinaEast Medical Center.

Wally was a sailmaker and canvasman in Oriental for decades, after migrating from Massachusetts, where his father had also been a sailmaker. He was a life-long boater of the Neuse River and Cape Cod, MA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond & Eileen Chapin.

He is survived by his son, Benjamin Chapin and wife, Amy; daughter, Carey Chapin; companion, Kelly Cohen; sister, Bonnie Chapin; and grand-dogs, Lily, Maybelline and Mojo.

There will be a celebration of Wally’s life held on Friday, May 12th at the Oriental Tiki Bar beginning at 6 p.m. The next day friends and family are welcome to gather at Cape Lookout for a final send off for Wally.

In lieu of flowers the family suggested memorial contributions be made to the American Red Cross, PO Box 37839, Boone, IA 50037-0839.
