MGSgt Richard “Dick” Joseph Scoppe, USMC (Ret.) passed away May 21, 2017, at UNC Hospital, Chapel Hill, with his wife and daughter, Lisa, at his side.
Dick was born in Medford, Massachusetts to Victor and Mary Scoppe on April 20, 1935. He had a kind and generous heart and loved his beloved wife, Emily Buck Scoppe, and their families dearly. He was dearly loved and was a dear friend to many.
Dick retired from the United States Marine Corps as a Master Gunnery Sergeant; he was also a Quality Director in civil service; and after retirement he had a home improvement business.
In addition to his beloved wife, Dick is survived by sister, Barbara Petti of Medford, MA; daughter, Lisa Lewis and husband, Willie, of Cove City; son, Richard Joseph Scoppe, Jr. of Jacksonville; daughter, Shannon Potter and husband, John, of New Bern; his stepdaughter, Vicki Hacker and Ed Meinking; stepson, Douglas Woolard and wife, Lynn. Dick also leaves his precious grandchildren, Charles Doyle, Thomas Doyle, Mary Henderson, Morgan Potter, Willie Lewis, Jonathan Lewis; step grandchildren, Cindy Hill, Daniel Hacker, and Ashley Woolard; great grandchildren, Brantley Lewis, Sara Lewis, Mallory Lewis, Willie Lewis V, Charles Joseph Doyle II, Willow Henderson, and Violet Lewis; step great-grandchildren, Ayden Hill and Naomi Hill.
Services are scheduled for Saturday, May 27, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. They will be held at the Reelsboro United Methodist Church with Reverends Randy Field and Walter Graves presiding. Graveside services with military honors will follow at the Sandhill Cemetery in Reelsboro. Visitation and reception for family and friends will follow at the church immediately after the graveside services.
Dick’s family requests in lieu of flowers, that memorial donations be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation, PO Box 5014, Hagerstown, MD 21741-5014.
