Kathleen "Winkie" Silverthorn Slade

Kathleen “Winkie” Silverthorn Slade, 99, of Whortonsville passed away at home Thursday, July 6, 2017.

She was born on October 4, 1917 in Whortonsville and due to the loving kindness of church friends and family she was able to live out her life at home. She was a member of Bethel Free Will Baptist Church where she held every position with the exception of pastor and deacon. She loved music and was the church pianist for over 75 years. She co-owned and operated Slade’s Grocery in Whortonsville for over 50 years. Through her life experiences she shared her wisdom and counsel with many others.

She is survived by many nieces and nephews including a nephew she thought of as a son, Roy Barnhill and his wife, Linda and their family, Julie & Ogden Wiggins, Joseph and Jacob and Kathy & Jim Satterthwaite, Amber, Anna and Peri.

Her funeral will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, July 8th at Bethel FWB Church with the church pastor, Rev. Jesse Caton and Rev. Owen Peele officiating. Interment will follow immediately in Whortonsville Cemetery.

The family will receive friends and family one hour prior to the service at the church.
