Melba Tingle Dixon, 98, of 2777 Straight Rd., Oriental, died July 27, 2017, at CarolinaEast Health System.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m., Sunday, July 30, 2017 at the Grantsboro Cemetery with Rev. Mike Roach officiating. The family will receive friends after the service and other times at the home.
She was a member of New Hope Christian Church in Reelsboro. Melba was also a member of The General Society of Mayflower Descendants, Northeast Colony of NC; National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, Richard Dobbs Spaight Chapter of NC; National Society Colonial Dames XVII Century, John Lawson Chapter of NC; National Society United States Daughters of 1812, Snap Dragon Chapter of NC.
Melba was born May 3, 1919, daughter of the late Matthew L. Tingle and Clara Wise Tingle of Pamlico, NC. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Eldridge L. Dixon, her brothers, Graham Tingle, Kenneth Tingle, Matthew Tingle, Jr, Frances Tingle and Forrest “Dink” Tingle, and her sister, Shirley Tingle Edwards.
She is survived by her sons, Eldridge L. Dixon, Jr. (Susan) of Chicago, Kenneth Tingle Dixon of Oriental; daughter, Jean Dixon of Oriental. She is also survived by her brother, Raymond A. Tingle of Oriental; granddaughter, Bernadette D. Hurd (Dan) of Madison, WI; great-granddaughter, Sarah Hurd of Madison, WI; and her nieces and nephews.
