Rev. Dr. Hallot Medford Parson, Sr. went to be with the Lord on Friday, September 29, at his home in New Bern. He was surrounded by loving family members at the time of his peaceful passing.
Rev. Parson was born March 1, 1926, to the late Rev. Alex Parson and Susan Miller Parson.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 62 years Sarah Popperwill Parson; two brothers, Larry Parson and Richard Parson; and a sister Janice Salmon.
Rev. Parson is survived by his wife Rosa Simpson Parson; son: Hallot (Rhoda) Parson of Carrolton, TX; three daughters: Christine (Carlton) Weatherington of Wilmington, NC; Peggy (Bruce) Robbins of New Bern; and Alfreda Parson also of New Bern. Additionally, he is survived by three brothers: Sam (Francis) Parsons, Leslie (Audrey) Parson, Raymond (Jan) Parson; two sisters: Lucille Smith and Gladys Pilkington; eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
Rev. Parson was a member of Bridgeton Pentecostal Holiness Church and a retired minister with the North Carolina Conference of the Pentecostal Holiness Church. He received his Masters and Doctorate degrees from the International Bible Institute.
Rev. Parson was a humble Child of God. His greatest desire was to live so that all would know that without God, we can do nothing; and with God, all things are possible. He believed all his blessings, and there were many, came from the Lord and always gave Him the praise and glory. Rev. Parson was called to preach the Gospel and did so whether from a pulpit or elsewhere. He truly believed his life belonged to God and could often be heard saying, “not my will, but Thine, be done.”
Rev. Parson was a loving father and a loyal friend to all. We will miss him so; but find comfort in knowing he is with the Lord.
Funeral services will be held at Bridgeton Pentecostal Holiness Church Tuesday, October 3. Visitation begins at 11 a.m. with services at 12 noon. Graveside service will follow at Greenleaf Memorial Park.
