Shade Morris Barnes

Shade Morris Barnes, 77, of Bayboro passed away Wednesday, February 28, 2018, at CarolinaEast Medical Center.

He was born in Cash Corner, NC on July 19, 1940 and graduated from PC High School in 1958. Shade began working for the Civil Service at Cherry Point in 1961 and retired in 1993 as a Planner & Estimator. In 1975/76 he was assigned to a unit that went to the South Pole to retrieve several a/c’s from Ice Pack. He was made a member of “The Society of the South Pole”. Also during his time with the Civil Service he was Vice President and President of NAAE Local 2-National Aircraft Examiners-and later became National President of Local’s 1 thru Local 6 in June of 1989 at the National Convention in Jacksonville, Florida. He later worked with contractors reworking a/c’s at Cherry Point.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Ray & William Barnes, sister, Hattie Smith, and step-daughter, Lynn H. Burroughs.

Shade, a devoted Christian, is survived by his wife, Deborah Smith Barnes; daughters, Anne Boyd of Bridgeton, Susie Ezzell of New Bern and Sandra Braswell of Fuquay-Varina; three grandchildren, Russell Boyd, Addison Braswell and Brycen Braswell; two step-grandsons, Landon Burroughs and Ethan Burroughs; and one great-grandchild, Grayson Boyd.

No services will be held.
