Amy Barnes McCotter, 72, of Vandemere, NC passed away January 6, 2026, at Bayview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in New Bern.
Amy was known for speaking her mind – you always knew exactly where you stood with her. She lived life on her own terms and enjoyed it to the fullest. Fiercely loyal and deeply loving, her family meant everything to her. She especially adored the children in her life, proudly wearing the title of “Aunt Amy,” doting on her nieces and nephews with endless affection.
Amy had a true love for the beach, where she found peace and joy, and her animals held a special place in her heart. Her dogs were family, treated with the same devotion and care she showed those she loved most.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Kelly and Jean Barnes, and her sister, Bett Jackson.
Amy shared nearly 45 years of her life with her devoted husband, Pat McCotter. Together they built a life filled with memories, love, and unwavering companionship. She is survived by her husband, Pat; children, Kimberly Whorton, David McCotter and wife, Jackie, and Johnny Warren and wife, Christina; her son-in-spirit, Pete Rae; brother, Ben Barnes and wife, Tina; sisters, Melissa Barker and husband, John, and Mary Zahran and husband, Sam; grandchildren, Jennifer McCotter, Christian McCotter, Stacey Weible, Jessica Kramer, Ashley Warren, and Spencer Warren; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews who will forever cherish her memory.
A private service to celebrate Amy’s life will be held at Daniels-Sadler Funeral Home.
