Arlen “Dave” Hunter Davis, 83, of Grantsboro, sadly left his family on Thursday, May 27, 2021.
Dave was born in 1937, in Cedar Fork, Duplin County, NC, to the late, Willie Davis and Lila Belle Hunter Davis. He attended Jones Central High School in Trenton and Bentley College of Accounting and Finance in Boston, MA. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1956 to 1960, on the USS Leyte aircraft carrier and the USS Warrington destroyer. He served with the Disabled American Veterans, the Veterans Council, and the Pamlico County Honor Guard. After moving back to NC, and until his retirement, Dave worked as Business Manager for the New Bern Sun Journal.
Dave is survived by his wife, Janice; one son, Douglas W. Davis (Karen) of Goldsboro; two daughters, Debra Lee Kallum (Dennis) of Maysville, and Karen Jean Gardner (Jesse, Jr.) of Grantsboro; seven grandchildren, Trista, Sarah (Craig), Alexander, Zachary, Kyle, Allyson (Cody), and Jesse III (Camry Cauley); six great-grandchildren, Caleb, Emma, Lila Belle, Landon, Natalie, and Lilianna; and one great-great grandchild, Raelynn.
He is also survived by his sister, Daphne Jones of New Bern; brother, Harry Davis (Ann) of Cape Carteret; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Services, with military honors, will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 29 th at the Lakeside Chapel in Greenleaf Memorial Park with the Rev. Scott Fitzgerald officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests those wishing make donations to Horses of Pamlico, ETC Animal Rescue, 135 Moore’s Swamp Rd. New Bern, NC 28560.
