Barbara Ann Schutz

Barbara Ann Schutz, 83 of New Bern, NC, went to her Eternal Home in Heaven on Thursday, April 26, 2018.

Barbara was born in Brooklyn, NY on November 5, 1934 to Perley and Augusta Melanson.

She attended St. Edmunds High School in Brooklyn.

Barbara was an artist creating many beautiful paintings and crafts that will remain in the family to be admired and cherished. She had a very kind, compassionate soul and lived for her children. She especially loved babies and had a special talent to soothe them. She was a loving, dedicated mother, grandmother, great grandmother and wife and beloved friend to many. She had a love for Christ and volunteered her time and talents at the church.

In her later years she was comforted by her beloved dog, Izzy.

Barbara is survived by her husband, William Schutz of New Bern, NC; her children Suzi Zefting-Kuhn (Gary Kuhn) of Pittsford, NY; Dr. Thomas E. Curd (Susan) of New Bern; and Barbara Jean Wilkus (Benjamin) of Holly Springs, She also leaves six grandchildren, Lindsay Vera (Aaron) of Albany, NY; Brett Zefting of CA; Aaron Curd and Garrett Curd (Heather) of New Bern, NC; Jordan Curd (Laura) of Durham, NC; and Brandt Wilkus of Holly Springs, NC; and three great grandchildren, Silas Curd, Miles Vera and Asher Curd.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Perley and Augusta Melanson; first husband, Leslie E. Curd; and her son, Leslie Howard Curd.

The family would like to thank the compassionate, caring, kind staff and volunteers at the SECU Hospice House in Smithfield, NC for keeping her comfortable in her final days.

Funeral services will be at St. Andrews Lutheran Church in New Bern, NC on Monday, April 30th at 11am.
