Betty Lee Boyd

January 11, 1940 — October 26, 2021

Betty Lee Boyd was a loving wife, daughter, mother, sister, aunt, and friend. She died peacefully on October 26. She was 81.

Betty’s beautiful, warm smile and natural beauty might be the first thing that drew you to her, but her genuine kindness and her generous, hospitable nature would keep you near. She made everyone feel that they belonged, and she took care of everyone just as if they were her own.

Betty was born to Kelly and Nellie Lee of Silver Hill, and she graduated from Pamlico County High School. She worked in the Craven County Clerk of Court’s office, and she worked as a secretary at Ward and Smith Attorneys. She married her sweetheart, Tommy Boyd, and the couple lived out their lives together. Their love grew into old age, and Tommy’s health declined, but he lived to see them celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary on March 18, 2021. He died the next day. They are together now for all eternity.

Betty cherished her roles as wife, mother, and grandmother. As Tommy’s wife, she worked alongside him in everything he did, from Nationwide Insurance, to supporting his work as a Shriner. “Lady” Betty was loved and respected by those in the Sudan Temple, where she was an active member of the Shrinettes until she was no longer able. She was a doting mother and “Grammy” who adored her granddaughters and showered them with love and attention.

She is preceded in death by her husband Tommy Boyd, her parents Kelly and Nellie Lee, her infant daughter, Jacqueline Dawn Boyd, her sisters Elna Goodson and Elsie Golden, and her brother, Robert Lee.

She is survived by her son Thomas “Woody” Woodrow Boyd, Jr. and his wife, Robin, of Delaware, and her granddaughters, Marina and Cassidy Boyd of Delaware.
