Long-time Minnesott Beach resident, Bobby Don Adkins, passed away at the age of 89 at CarolinaEast Medical Center on March 7, 2022.
Bobby was born in Danville, VA on December 17, 1932 and joined the United States Navy in 1951. He was stationed in Honolulu, Hawaii where he met his future bride, Janet Anita Brown. The couple was married at Hickam Village Chapel on June 13th, 1954. After being discharged in 1955, the couple returned to the mainland and lived in several locations in Virginia and North Carolina before settling in Minnesott Beach. After being employed with the NC Highway Patrol and later with the Pamlico County Sheriff's Department, Bobby worked for and retired from Texasgulf (Nutrien) in Aurora, NC after 16 years of service. He was an avid deer hunter and member of Fairfield Hunting Club for many years.
Bobby is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Isabelle Adkins; his wife, Janet Adkins; and his adopted sister, Kathy Potter.
He is survived by son, Mark Adkins; daughter, Amy Adkins Amerson (Randy); hunting buddy and grandson, Adam Amerson; most special great-grandson, Braxton Amerson; and his adopted brother, John Adkins.
The family would like to give special thanks to his caregiver over the past almost year, Debbie Early, for her care and compassion.
Funeral services will be held at Bryant Funeral Home in Alliance, NC at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 13th, 2022 with Reverend Bruce Cheney, Sr. of St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Oriental presiding.
