Bruce A. McAskill, 77, of the Fairfield Harbor community, passed away peacefully on April 4, 2026, at CarolinaEast Medical Center.
Born on August 13, 1948, in Newport, Rhode Island, Bruce was the son of the late Francis R. McAskill and Joan M. Park. A man of honor, dedication, and service, he devoted 24 years of his life to protecting and serving his community as a police officer with the Portsmouth Police Department. He also became an FBI-qualified instructor in handgun safety.
Bruce had a deep appreciation for the outdoors and found great joy in fishing, hunting, and boating. He was also an avid gun collector, a passion he pursued with knowledge and care. In April of 2016, Bruce and his beloved wife, Cheryl, made the move from Rhode Island to North Carolina, where they embraced a new chapter of life together.
Bruce was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He married Cheryl on March 5, 1983, and together they built a life rooted in love, strength, and unwavering support for one another. He will be remembered for his steady presence, his quiet strength, and the deep love he had for his family.
In addition to his parents, Bruce was preceded in death by his brother, Glen C. McAskill.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Cheryl McAskill; son, Keith A. McAskill; daughter, Tracey L. McAskill; and his cherished grandchildren, Lesley and Shana Joy McAskill.
A memorial service to honor Bruce’s life will be held at Broad Creek Christian Church on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741.
