BURKE “BEN” HAYWOOD BENNETT of New Bern, NC, passed away on March 5, 2021 at CarolinaEast Medical Center after a brief illness. Ben was born in Pamlico County on February 15, 1929, the son of Hubert and Sudie Bennett. As a young man, Ben proudly served the City of New Bern as a police officer. He then went on to a successful career in sales and marketing in the food and beverage industry, as well as the auto business.
Ben was preceded in death by his wife Margaret H. Bennett; his son, Gregory L. Bennett; his brothers: Alfred Moye Bennett and Hubert Ray Bennett; and his sister Era Mae Outlaw.
Ben is survived by his daughter Adella Bennett Givens (Wayne) of Jacksonville, Florida; his son Stephen Joseph Bennett (Jennifer) of Castle Hayne, NC; and seven grandchildren Laura Givens Goldman (Eric) of Saint Johns, FL; Michael J. Givens (Kimberly) of Peachtree Corners, GA; Shannon G. Bennett (Silke) of Rocky Point, NC; Timothy J. Bennett (Jillian) of Worcester, MA; 1 st Lt. USAF Stephen B. Bennett currently serving in Japan; Morgan R. Bennett of Raleigh, NC; and Wm “Ken” Stembridge III of New Bern, NC.; and three great-grandchildren Sarah B. Bennett of Rocky Point, NC; brother and sister Nicholas D. and Amelia J. Goldman of Saint Johns, FL.
Graveside funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 10 th at 1:00 p.m. with visitation for family and friends one hour prior to service. Both visitation and service to be held at Sand Hill Cemetery, Hwy 55, Pamlico County and officiated by Pastor Dwayne Boyd.
