Carl Major Baxley, Jr.

Carl Major Baxley Jr., 83, of Oriental passed away Monday, June 4, 2018, at home.

He was a proud veteran of the Korean Conflict and was an active member of Oriental United Methodist Church.

After retiring from an Aero Space Company in Maryland as Director of Management Information Systems, Carl sailed “Moon Shadow”, his 37 ft. Irwin, from the Chesapeake Bay to the Sailing Capital of North Carolina.  Since relocating to Oriental 22 years ago, Carl became active in the community serving as President of both Station 19 Fire and Rescue and the Old Theater.  Volunteered at HOPE Clinic and Meals On Wheels.  He was an avid sailor and served as Commodore of the Sailing Club of Oriental. He was also a member of the Ham Radio Club (PARS), the Lower Neuse Anglers (LNA) fishing club and Thursday night Poker guys.  His life story was full of genuine, robust accomplishments and ambitious adventures.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Audrey and grandson, Tyler.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Catherine Baxley; sons, Mark Baxley (Tracey) and Carl Andrew Baxley (Susan); daughters, Peggy Zublick (Michael) and Carol Roese; step-son, Steven Hale; brother, Bill Baxley; seven grandchildren, Zoe Lynn, Kyle, Jessica, Shaun, Danny, Michelle and Christopher; step-grandsons, Logan and Justin; and one great-granddaughter, Kayleigh.

His memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., June 14 ^th at Oriental United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jimmy Weaver officiating.

The family will receive friends and relatives one hour prior to the service at the church.
