Catherine "Katie" Arthur Atkinson

Catherine Elizabeth Arthur Atkinson, a lifelong resident of New Bern, N.C., peacefully went to meet our Lord in the company of her family at home early in the morning on July 27, 2024.  She lived 91 beautiful years.

Katie learned at an early age the value of hard work. Her treasured talent was the art of giving to others and putting all ahead of her own desires. She was the rock of her family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She was a masterful cook who could whip up any meal or dessert with “…a splash of this and a dash of that…” always more than enough for anyone who needed it.  She was a charter member of Temple Baptist Church along with Franklin, her husband of almost 70 years.   She diligently volunteered and gave her time to her church and other missions when her health allowed her to do so.

She is survived by her children, Gail Atkinson Biesecker (Tim) of Roanoke Rapids, Etta Atkinson Lucas (Mike) of Trent Woods, Jan Atkinson Haddock of Trent Woods, grandchildren, Josh Biesecker of Williamston, Kelly Jones (Lucas) of Wilmington, Lindsey Lucas (Kyle) of Greenville, Hank Haddock (Aubrey) of Trent Woods, Frank Haddock of Trent Woods, great-grandchildren Taylor Jones and Brody Jones, her dear friend, Dianne Ezell (Dave) of New Bern.

Katie was preceded in death by her husband, Franklin; father and mother, Jarvis and Florence Arthur; brothers, Robert Arthur and Jarvis Arthur, Jr.

A graveside service will be held Tuesday, July 30 at 11:00 AM at Lake Side Chapel/Greenleaf Memorial Park.
