Charles Franklin Banks, “Papa Chuck” of Stonewall, passed away Friday, November 2, 2018, at CarolinaEast Medical Center.
Papa Chuck was born on March 17, 1946 to Frank & Katherine Banks. He grew up in Goose Creek, in Arapahoe, the second of five children. On May 23, 1975, he married Maxine Bennett and was a devoted husband for 43 years.
Papa Chuck proudly served in the US Navy for four years, serving in Vietnam. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, as well as the Vietnam Service Medal with one Bronze Star. He then worked on the water for a short time and finally a mechanic for Phillip Dunn Logging. After retirement, he spent his time outside in “Papa’s Shop” where he piddled and tinkered. He was always there to give his advice or offer a helping hand. He never met a stranger and was always excited to share how proud he was of his children’s and grandchildren’s accomplishments.
Chuck is preceded in death by his parents and four siblings. He is survived by his wife, Maxine; two children, Willie Banks (Crystal) of Stonewall and Stephanie Henries (Michael), of Stonewall; seven grandchildren, who had his heart; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, November 6 th , at 11:00 a.m. at Bryant Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Flowers are welcomed or memorials may be made to a charity of choice.
