Charles John Brewer

Charles (Charlie) John Brewer of New Bern passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, November 21, 2021. He was 81 years old.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife and best friend of 25 years, Florence Shepherd Brewer; his daughter, Donna Baylis (Scott) of Wilmington, DE; son, Chuck Brewer (Theresa) of West Chester, PA; grandchildren, Brittany, Matthew, Kyle and Aiden; great-grandson, Ernie; and his sister, Janis Parker of Carrollton, Texas.

Charlie was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Katherine Brewer and brother, Frank.

Born and raised in Orange, Texas, Charlie graduated in 1962 from Lamar University, Beaumont TX, where he was a member of Phi Kappa Alpha Fraternity.  Upon graduation, Charlie started his career with the DuPont Company.   During his 37 years with DuPont, he worked and lived in various locations in the US, Europe, Asia and the Middle East.

Upon retiring in 1999, he and Florence moved to New Bern from Wilmington, DE so Charlie could enjoy his favorite activity, golf, year-round.  He could be found almost daily on the golf course, only giving it up in the past few years due to ill health.

An avid reader, Charlie also enjoyed the occasional poker game with friends, and traveling with his wife.  He was also a devoted Dallas Cowboys fan.

The family wishes to thank the nurses of 3HC Hospice for their care and a special thanks to Charlie’s sister-in-law, Liz Bross, for providing loving and expert home care during his final weeks with assistance from his sister-in-law, Margaret Tau.

In accordance with his wishes, no services will be held.  A Celebration of Charlie’s life will be scheduled for a later date.
