Charles Duval Hardison, 79, passed away at home with his family by his side on July 19, 2021. Charles was born in Arapahoe, NC on December 24, 1941 to Duval and Mary Hardison. After graduating from Pamlico County High School in 1960 he enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he served his country with honor. Charles then went on to a civilian career with NARF-MCAS Cherry Point / NADEP, which he retired from in 1999. He served on the Board of Trustees of the Pamlico County Community College and was a Commissioner of the Town of Arapahoe (1986-2003). He was a devoted member, Sunday school teacher, and former Deacon of Reelsboro Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Charles was an avid photographer who loved to video and photograph weddings, take portraits, family photos and local sports photos. He also photographed every trick-or-treater who stopped by, with the years of previous photos as a backdrop. Charles was passionate about bringing the Word of God to those he met and knew. Whether by sharing the Christian Faith in the Pamlico County Jail or through casual conversation, he never met a stranger, and wanted to be sure that he would see them again in heaven. Charles enjoyed feeding the fish out in his ponds and sharing those moments with those who stopped by to say hello. Most of all, Charles enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Charles was predeceased by his parents and his grandson, Wayne (JR) Wenteler, Jr.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Sarah Green Hardison; their son, Charles Timothy Hardison and wife, Dawn, of West Virginia; daughter, Nicole Berry of Pamlico County; his brothers, Donald Hardison of New Bern and John Gary Hardison (Teresa) of Arapahoe; his sister, Rhonda Hardison Phelps of New Bern; his grandchildren, Charles Timothy Hardison, Jr. (Kate), Shawnee Hardison, Michael Hardison (Hope), Anthony Hardison (Christina), Chase Harrell (Seline), and Eli Berry; eight great-grandchildren; and his nieces and nephews, all of whom he loved immensely.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 22nd at Reelsboro Pentecostal Holiness Church. Visitation from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow immediately in Paul Cemetery, Arapahoe.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his honor to Hospice of Pamlico County, PO Box 6, Bayboro, NC 28515.
