David Thomas Purifoy, 76 of Reelsboro passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 30, 2023, at Carolina East Medical Center surrounded by his family.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran and faithful member of New Hope Christian Church for over 50 years. He was a member of the Reelsboro Community Watch and one of the founding members of the Reelsboro - Olympia Volunteer Fire Department. David graduated from Pamlico County High School in 1966 where he played football and was a member of the Future Farmers of America. He furthered his education at Craven Community College and received his certification in Heating and Air Conditioning Technology. He worked over 25 years at Maola Milk and Ice Cream Company and continued working 20+ years in Heating and Air Conditioning with various companies. He was a faithful servant of his church in many ways. He enjoyed working on his farm, racing, and traveling with the family. His favorite pastime was watching Nascar and going to races with his pride and joy, his only grandson, Richard Aaron May. He was very proud of Aaron and all his recent accomplishments of Eagle Scout and being inducted into the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society for Academic Excellence at Craven Community College.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Luther Jones Purifoy, Sr., and Mary Elizabeth Purifoy; one brother, Luther Jones Purifoy, Jr. and two sisters, Mary Emma Purifoy Hacker, and Julia Caroline Purifoy.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife of 56 years, Margie Bell Purifoy; one daughter, Kathy Purifoy May, and husband, Richard Eric May; one grandson, Richard Aaron May; one sister, Mildred Purifoy Riggs, and husband, Ernest Lee Riggs; three godchildren, Janice Stocks Smith and husband, Brendan, Ashley Wayne Wood and family, Anne and Kai; Zachary Allan Wood and family, Carlyn and Rowan; many nieces, nephews and friends that loved him dearly.
His funeral will be held at 3:00 pm, Saturday, May 6 th at New Hope Christian Church, 6055 Hwy 55 East, New Bern 28560. The visitation will be held one hour prior to the service in the church fellowship hall.
In lieu of flowers the family suggested memorial contributions be made to New Hope Christian Church, 6055 Hwy 55 East, New Bern 28560.
