David Ray White, 67, passed away at his home in Trent Woods, NC, on Sunday, June 1, 2025, after a courageous 2½-year battle with acute myeloid leukemia. Born on October 20, 1957, in New Bern, NC, he was the beloved son of the late Frances Ernestine McCotter White and Willie Oscar White, Sr.
Known affectionately as “Buddy” to his family, David discovered his gift for house painting at age 14, working alongside family members. As a talented painter, he served countless clients in the New Bern area with skill and dedication. Guided by his Christian faith, David lived with quiet strength and deep trust in God.
David’s warmth and sociability shone in his love for connecting with others. He relished conversations and sharing stories, leaving a lasting impression as a good-hearted soul. Music, a cherished hobby, filled his life with joy. He sang with enthusiasm, performing at venues in Jacksonville, North Carolina, where his passion for music radiated.
Family and friends are invited to gather at the home of Greg and Tammy Petteway, 728 Circle Drive, Trent Woods, NC, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, to share stories and remember David.
David is survived by his brother, Willie Oscar White, Jr. (Nancy) of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and sisters, Mary Ellen White Tripp (Charles) and Sue White Duby (Vince), both of New Bern, and Tammy White Petteway (Greg) of Trent Woods, along with his beloved nieces and nephews, who were deeply fond of him and are heartbroken by his loss.
A service will be held at Greenleaf Memorial Park Lakeside Chapel in New Bern at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 4, 2025.
