Dena Marie Riley

Dena Marie Riley, 51, passed away on September 22, 2026. Born on May 17, 1975, Dena lived a life filled with love for her family, dedication to her work, and service to her country.

Dena proudly served in the United States Navy for four years as a Hospital Corpsman. Following her military service, she continued her passion for caring for others through her work at CarolinaEast Medical Center, where she was employed for 16 years. Throughout her career, she touched the lives of many through her compassion and commitment to helping others. When she was not at work, Dena could often be found volunteering her time with a variety of organizations, including her volunteer work with Breakfast with Santa. Her generosity and willingness to give back to her community reflected her caring spirit and her desire to make a difference in the lives of others.

She leaves behind her three beloved children, Alex Tullos, 31 (Katie), Hanna Lee, 29, (Dalton), and Hayden Riley, 22. She was also a proud grandmother to Grayson Lee, 9, Sutton Lee, 1, and Amelia-Jane Lee, 2 weeks old. Her children and grandchildren brought tremendous joy to her life, and her love for them will remain a lasting part of her legacy.

Dena will be deeply missed by her family, friends, coworkers, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her memory will live on through the love she shared, the lives she touched, and the family she cherished.

Dena's family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to her coworkers at CarolinaEast Medical Center, including the Cancer Center, and to the compassionate staff of Craven County Hospice for the care, kindness, and support they provided.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at 1 :30 p.m. at Broad Creek Christian Church, located at 45 Olympia Road, New Bern, NC 28560.

In keeping with Dena's wishes, the family asks that those attending her Celebration of Life refrain from wearing black and instead wear bright, vibrant colors that reflect her joyful spirit, colorful personality, and the beautiful light she brought into the lives of those around her. Let us come together not in mourning, but in celebration of a life filled with love, laughter, and unforgettable memories.

The family kindly requests no flowers, plants, or food at this time. Memorial donations may be made in Dena's memory or honor to Craven County Hospice or to cancer research.
