Dorothy Spruill Tingle

Dorothy Spruill Tingle, 94, of Oriental passed away Friday, October 4, 2024, at Crystal Coast Hospice House in Newport. She was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Raymond Tingle, Sr.

She was a graduate of Oriental High School and Atlantic Christian College. She retired from Pamlico County Schools in 1990 after 33 years of service.

Her favorite pastimes were great grandchildren, jigsaw puzzles, game shows, word searches, college basketball, and time spent with friends in the evening at the river.

She raised her family less than one mile from where she grew up in the Ashwood community.

She is survived by her children, Julia Tingle, Linda Burton, and Raymond Tingle, Jr.; grandchildren, Ronald Burton, Jr., Carol Kirchhoff (Charlie), and John-Michael Harrison (Daniela); six great-grandchildren; and two special nieces, Wanda Forrest and Cathy Dunbar.

A funeral service to honor Dorothy’s life will be held Tuesday, October 8th at 11 a.m. at Oriental United Methodist Church.

As a longtime member of Oriental United Methodist Church and charter member of the Dorcas Circle, she requested memorials and donations be directed to OUMC, PO Box 70, Oriental, NC 28571.
