Ellen Louise Mcvitty

Ellen L. McVitty (Beck), age 92, of Oriental, NC, passed away peacefully at home on November 18, 2022, with her son, daughter, and son-in-law at her side.

Ellen was born in Perth Amboy, NJ on January 18, 1930, to Theodore and Ellen Beck.  She graduated from Perth Amboy High School on June 10, 1948.  After marrying William McVitty on April 11, 1953, at the 1 ^st Presbyterian Church, Rumson, NJ Ellen and Bill became longtime residents of Fair Haven, NJ.  Ellen was an active member of the Fair Haven United Methodist Church and the Fair Haven Senior Group where she enjoyed playing cards and taking bus trips to the Atlantic City casinos.  Upon Bill’s death in December of 1987, Ellen moved to Tinton Falls, NJ and eventually to Oriental, NC.  While Ellen resisted change, she very much enjoyed the friendliness and beauty of NC.

Affectionately known as Mommom to all, Ellen loved her dogs and grand dogs, was an excellent bowler, and loved card games and rummy tiles.  Her favorite television shows included Let’s Make a Deal, Jeopardy , Wheel of Fortune , any Hallmark or Christmas movie, and her soaps.  Ellen was a devoted Mets fan and especially enjoyed this past season.

Ellen will be best remembered as a kind, gentle soul with the warmest of hearts.  She needed little, asked for nothing, and gave so much.  She enjoyed simple pleasures.  Her greatest joy was being a grandmother to her beloved Katie McVitty, Jill McVitty, Tom Slook and Brittney Slook.  She will be deeply missed by her family, grand dogs, friends and all who knew her.

Predeceased in death by husband William McVitty, sister Bernice Willliams, and brother-in-law Virgil Williams.  Ellen is lovingly remembered by son Bill McVitty, daughter-in-law Diane McVitty, granddaughters Katie and Jill McVitty, daughter Debbie Slook, son-in-law Bob Slook, grandson Tom Slook and granddaughter Brittney Slook.
