- Emily Carol Buck Scoppe (Granny), passed away on Friday, May 8 th at Nash UNC General Hospital. Her daughter, Vicki Hacker, grand-daughter, Cindy Hill, and friend, Ed Meinking, were by her side, which followed complications after an injury.
She was the daughter of the late Eugene Buck and Mildred Hines Reel Buck. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Richard Scoppe; her son, Douglas Woolard; a brother, Eugene Buck, Jr. and a step-grandchild, Mary Henderson. Emily was born August 20, 1940, in New Bern. She was a highly active member of the Pamlico County and Craven County Democratic Party, with a long history in Pamlico thanks to her mother, Mildred Reel Buck. She was also a member of Beta Sigma Phi in Havelock.
She retired after many years working at Cherry Point. She was a member of the Reelsboro United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her sister, Linda Buck Walker and brother-in-law, James Howard Walker, of Vancouver, Washington; daughter, Vicki Hacker and Ed Meinking; step-daughter, Lisa Scoppe Lewis and husband, Willie, of Cove City; step-son, Richard Joseph Scoppe, Jr. of Jacksonville; step-daughter, Shannon Potter and husband, John, of New Bern; three grandchildren, Cynthia Woolard Hill, Daniel Hacker, and Ashley Woolard, six step-grandchildren, Charles Doyle, Thomas Doyle, Morgan Potter, Willie Lewis, and Jonathan Lewis; three great-grandchildren, Ayden Hill, Naomi Hill and Tinley Synclare Hacker; nine step-great grandchildren, Brantley Lewis, Sarah Lewis, Mallorie Lewis, Violet Lewis, Willie Lewis V, Charles Doyle II, Richard Doyle, Samuel Doyle and Willow Henderson; and many special nieces and nephews.
The greatest of her legacies was her tremendous love of her family and friends. She was a dear friend to many and never saw a stranger. She would make you feel valued and took the time to get to know everyone. She was the definition of southern hospitality and class and will be deeply missed by everyone that knew her. A true Southern Belle.
A private graveside service at Sandhill Cemetery in Reelsboro is scheduled for Saturday, May 16, 2020, at 11:00 am with Rev. Michael Roach officiating. The family will host a Celebration of Life for Emily when the COVID-19 gathering ban is lifted so that everyone can attend and fellowship to remember the amazing lady she was.
