Ernest Russell Hudson

Ernest Russell Hudson went to his heavenly home on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at the age of 85. He was born in Washington, NC on December 31, 1938, to George Nehemiah Hudson and Frances Sheppard Hudson.

Ernie will be deeply missed by his wife of 51 years, JoAnn Dyer Hudson; son, Russ Hudson (Debbie) of Vandemere; daughters, Lisa Caroon of Vandemere, and Jennifer Grunmeier (Harry) of New Bern; sister, Sylvia Hudson Ipock of Vanceboro; sister-in-law, Kay Hudson of Raleigh; grandchildren, Denise Salerno, Jeremy Hudson, Aaron Caroon, Savannah Grunmeier, and Gabriel Grunmeier; and great-grandchildren, Gaven, Breanna, and Jace Hudson.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Doris Hudson Mayo-Henry and Sandra Hudson Williams and brother, George Hudson.

He operated Cash Corner Supermarket for 10 years then worked as a merchant marine for Express Marine, Inc on tugboats for 30 years. He loved working on the water, fishing, hunting, and working in his yard.

Ernie was a wonderful family man and friend. He loved the Lord and studied his Bible regularly. He enjoyed teaching Bible classes at local nursing homes/assisted living facilities. He is a member of Oriental Free Will Baptist Church and attended Bridgeton Christian Church in his later years.

A funeral service to honor Ernie’s life will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, August 21st at Daniels-Sadler Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Pastor Ray Conner and Rev. Allen Stabley. Interment will follow immediately in Oriental Cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

The family wishes to thank all the Craven County Hospice nurses that helped them through the last few months.
