Gladys Caraway Barbour

Gladys Caraway Barbour, 86, of Beaufort N.C passed away April 22, 2025 unexpectedly at Carteret General Hospital. Gladys was born in Whortonsville, N.C. at the family home on June 5, 1938, to William Joshua Caraway and Senie Mason Caraway. She was the youngest of seven children.

Gladys is preceded in death by her parents William Joshua Caraway and Senie Mason Caraway. She is also preceded in death by her six siblings, William Guion Caraway, Clifford Harvey Caraway, Lille Caraway Bennett, Minnie Caraway Slade, Jennings Bryan Caraway, Luther David Caraway and a great-grandson Grayson Lee Tingle.

Gladys loved nothing more than her significant other, Augutus Pitt, of 12 years, her daughter Letha Tingle (Mike), grandchildren, Daniel Lofton, Timothy Tingle (Karah), and Michaela Hopkins (Eric). She held a special place in her heart for her great-grandchildren, Kristan Ledbetter, Breanna Lofton, Elizabeth Hopkins, David Hopkins, Anthony Hopkins, and Zoey Hopkins. She also had three great-great grandchildren and multiple nieces and nephews.

Gladys enjoyed her church, Graham Memorial of Mill Creek, with pastor Chad Graham. She also enjoyed playing cards with her senior card group, listening to gospel and bluegrass music and attending Bible Study. She will be missed by all who loved and knew her.

A memorial service will be held at Amity Christian Church in Grantsboro on Sunday May 18th at 2:00 pm.
