Gladys Ives (Sadler) Holton at age 92, peacefully departed to be with our Lord Jesus Christ on Tuesday, January 18, 2022.
She was born in Mesic, North Carolina, as the first daughter of Charlie and Mary Ives (both deceased). Her father built a store by the draw bridge in Hobucken, North Carolina where she and her brother Whitty, and sister, Gay, (both deceased) were raised and later she took over the store and her family lived there many years. She graduated from Hobucken High School in 1947.
Gladys was married to Johnnie Ray Holton, Sr., and had a blended family of six children: Emma Lupton (Bob), Mona Sadler, Nita Holton Lee (Andy), Wendy Holton, Sandy Holton Purvis (Frank), and Johnnie Ray Holton, Jr. Gladys was blessed with many grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She spent a lot
of time keeping her grandson Adrian Henson and his two sons, Curtis and Kelby while they grew up. In 2020 her first great-great grandchild was born, Leslie Henson. The family made a five generation portrait of this event but a few months later she requested another which was done in a Mini Cooper convertible with Gladys at the wheel, and all the others in and on the car. Hers and everyone's waves were a great reflection of the love between her and her family.
Gladys and Johnnie lived in Reelsboro on a busy corner where she loved to sit and wave as others passed by. Gladys was well known for her work in genealogy. She co-wrote a book on the Lupton Family. She gathered information on numerous family names of Pamlico County. She was close to her Aunts and Uncles on her mother's side, the Williamsons, and this past September (2021) at the Williamson Reunion she could still rattle off family names and past events.
Recently she said that her greatest accomplishment in life was being Saved. It is with sadness that she has left us, but with great joy that she received the promise of eternal Life. John 14:6 is the encouragement that she leaves all who read this, that life can have meaning, purpose, and truth through a relationship with God through His Son Jesus Christ. It is Gladys' testimony and encouragement to us all to seek the Peace and Love that she knew through forgiveness and salvation which is a free gift from
our LORD.
A private burial will be held at a later date by the family.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Hospice of Pamlico County, PO Box 6, Bayboro, NC 28515.
