Grosvenor G. Barber passed peacefully on June 14, 2026, at the age of 96, to be with Jesus, his first love. He was a loving husband, father, and friend.
He is survived by his wife, Sandy Welch Barber; daughter, Becky Davis and husband, Joe Davis; son, Dick Barber and wife, Nel Barber.
Grosvenor was born in New York City and grew up in Pomfret, CT. At the age of 20, he joined the 82nd Airborne as a paratrooper and was stationed at Fort Bragg in Fayetteville, NC. He completed 30 jumps and served 3 years and finished his term as a Sergeant E-5. He went on to attend Elon College where he received his B.A. in math, science, and physics. He taught 8th grade for 30 years at Carrol Middle School in Raleigh, NC where he was known as “Mr. B.” After retiring he moved with family to Oriental. He worked at Pecan Grove Marina until he was 83 as Dock Master, where he loved taking care of the boats and especially the people! He also volunteered once a week for Yoke Fellow Ministries for 17 years at the Pamlico Correctional Institution in Bayboro, NC. He was so loved by many and will be truly missed.
