Mrs. Harriett “Hattie” Rebecca Beach Werner, 96, passed away peacefully on September 1, 2026, at her home in Oriental, North Carolina.
Hattie was born on January 9, 1930, in Elmont, New York, to Walter and Nan Beach. She was raised in Franklin Square, New York, alongside her two brothers, Roy and Billy Beach. On March 31, 1951, she married the love of her life, Robert L. “Bob” Werner. Together, they built a beautiful life and raised their two children, Laura and Rob, in Bellport, New York.
After retiring, Bob and Hattie made their way to Oriental, North Carolina, where they settled on Orient Lane and made their home in the community they came to love so dearly. Following Bob’s passing in 2011, Hattie remained in the home they had shared, surrounded by the memories and life they had created together.
Hattie was a woman who believed in giving of herself to others. She generously volunteered with hospice, offering her time and compassion to those in need. She was also actively involved with Oriental Methodist Church and the Peace Preschool within the church, where she cherished the opportunity to be part of the lives of others in her community.
One of Hattie’s greatest joys was gardening. She found peace and happiness in tending to her flowers and plants, nurturing them with the same patience and care that she gave to the people she loved. Her home and garden were reflections of a life lived with purpose, kindness, and appreciation for the simple blessings around her.
She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Laura Werner Bennett; her daughter-in-law, Susan Werner; and her granddaughter, Rebecca Bennett (Devin Tutii); and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert L. Werner; her son, Rob Werner; and her son-in-law, Dalton Bennett.
She will be inurned at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville, North Carolina, alongside her beloved husband, Bob.
